GAME is set to launch a new store and BELONG™ arena in St George’s, bringing local competitive video gaming to Preston and providing a dedicated space for gamers to play with friends, compete in tournaments, enjoy gaming nights and celebrate new games.
The state-of-the-art facility, situated within the new, larger Preston GAME store, will open on February 2. It has 24 individual gaming desks, boasting an array of the very latest tech, including consoles, VR headsets and cutting edge gaming PCs.
GAME launched BELONG™ in late 2016, to support competitive gaming at a grassroots level with 19 arenas now open around the country including in London, Bristol, Manchester, Portsmouth and Cardiff.
The competitive gaming or ‘esports’ industry is growing quickly, with 6.5 million in the UK participating every year and many more spectating. BELONG provides a dedicated space in town centres for fans to come together and enjoy gaming, fostering a community spirit amongst gamers.
The GAME Preston arena will also be recruiting for its own esports team under the name of the Preston Invincibles with budding professional gamers encouraged to get involved.
Danielle Beard, Store Manager at GAME Preston, said: “We’re delighted to be moving into our new store in St George’s. With more space in a great location, we’ll be able to bring even more standout new games, consoles and accessories to our customers.
“The move also allows us to introduce BELONG to the city. Our hugely popular arenas are perfect for anyone who’d like to enjoy everything gaming has to offer, from families and casual gamers to passionate fans. We’ll also be launching Preston’s first ever esports team – the Preston Invincibles – representing the city in the nationwide Arena Clash UK series.”
Andrew Stringer, centre manager at St George’s Shopping Centre, added: “GAME has already had a presence in St George’s for many years, but the move to a more sizeable unit is exciting news for Preston’s community of gaming fanatics.
“I’m sure the move will be welcome news to Preston gamers. It’s state-of-the-art facilities will provide them with a space to hang out with friends and do what they enjoy best.”
A full day of gaming at BELONG Preston costs £5 an hour off peak and £7 an hour at peak, while gamers can try out the latest VR headsets from as little as £2 with a 10 minute session costing £5, with the cost being deducted from the price of the headset if it’s then purchased.
BELONG Preston is also available for event hires, acting as a perfect venue for anything from birthday celebrations to work parties, with a number of special events taking place during school holidays.
