St George’s will be sprinkling Preston city centre with festive cheer this November as it throws support behind the city’s lights switch on.
St George’s is sponsoring the annual Christmas Concert and Lights Switch On, which returns to Preston Flag Market from 5.30pm on Saturday, November 25, after Santa’s reindeer make a flying visit from 2pm-4pm.
The line-up will include a special performance from boyband Union J and Kyle Passmore from BBC1’s ‘Let It Shine’, as well as appearances from soap legend Steve McFadden, The Drifters’ Ray Lewis, CBeebies’ Katy Ashworth, Preston’s panto cast, The Ashes opera singer Sean Ruane, and the big man himself – Santa.
The switch on, which is a headline event in the city’s calendar, has been organised by Preston BID. Following the event, the city’s Christmas lights will shine nightly until Tuesday, January 2.
Mark Whittle, from Preston BID, said: “Christmas is always a really good time of year in Preston, and this year will be no exception, there are plenty of activities for all the family. With a strong retail offer and a vibrant bar and restaurant scene – there’s an abundance of choice.”
Andrew Stringer, centre manager at St George’s Shopping Centre, which is sponsoring the Christmas Concert and Lights Switch On, added: “Christmas is a magical time for all the family and Preston offers something for everyone – fantastic shops, both national multiples and independents, excellent nightlife and host of free events and activities to keep the children entertained.”
St George’s has Christmas all wrapped up this year with a line-up of festive activities including a Santa’s grotto and gift wrapping service, which will be run free of charge by Galloway’s Society for the Blind.
The Galloway’s Grotto will open on Saturday, November 25 and run every Saturday and Sunday up to and including December 10. From December 13, the grotto will be open 11am-5pm every day until Christmas Eve, while the gift wrapping service will be open daily from December 13.
