A Preston art shop and gallery which has been in the same location for almost 30 years will re-launch next month with a modern and vibrant new store.

The Original Art Shop which opened in St George’s Shopping Centre in 1988 will open its new store in the centre in April.

The shop, which is currently having a relocation sale, will move from its current base on the first floor of the shopping centre to a newly refitted unit on the ground floor of the centre.

Owned by Robin and Sheila Carter, the shop sells a wide range of contemporary art from the UK’s most prominent fine art publishers and is the exclusive stockist in Preston for limited edition prints by Ronnie Wood, Bob Dylan and Kerry Darlington.

Robin, a Fine Art Trade Guild Commended Framer, said: “After being in the same location for almost 30 years we’re really excited to be moving to the new unit, it has a much bigger shop front which is ideal for us to showcase the art we sell.

“The new unit will have a modern and refreshed look, we’ve already had a sneak peek and it looks great. Our new home is in a prime spot in the centre and marks the start of the next chapter for us.

“We’ve visited some of the country’s best galleries to take inspiration for the new look shop and gallery and we hope it will prove to be a big hit with both new and existing customers.

“We’ve got some wonderful pieces of art to display and the look we’ve gone for will be ideal to showcase this.”

The new store, which is due to open in April, will also be home to a new framing workshop, holding hundreds of different mouldings.

Andrew Stringer, general manager at St George’s, added: “The relocation of the store marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Robin, Sheila and the store. They have been a part of this centre for almost three decades and we wish them every success in their new location.”
