Will you be here for The Guild?

Guild 2012

2012 will be an incredibly exciting time for the city of Preston as it celebrates the historic traditions of Preston Guild for the first time this millennium and for the first time since being granted city status by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.

What is Preston Guild? Why is it so special? Why would you be mad to miss it?

Preston Guild is a historic celebration dating back to 1179. It is the only Guild still celebrated in the UK and as  such is unique. Held only once every twenty years, the Guild plays an important role in the development of Preston as a thriving and important Lancashire city. This is a wonderful and unique opportunity to showcase Preston’s hidden gems and raise the profile of the city regionally, nationally and internationally. An opportunity not only to create and celebrate, but also to educate the world about Preston in the 21st century.

A comprehensive programme of creative, innovative and inspiring events is being drawn up in association with community groups, partners and sponsors from Preston and across the North West. This will include celebrations of the arts, sports, faith, diversity, youth and Preston past and Preston future. Residents and visitors, artists and businesses, athletes and performers – everyone gets involved in Preston Guild. The Guild has a long history and has evolved over the centuries, but one thing that has always remained the central focus of the Guild is people -the people who plan it, participate in it, promote it and the people who tell their stories of the Guild to children and grandchildren.
